Only a Heartless Person Would Want Israel's War in Gaza to Go on -

Barak HeymannJun 10, 2024

Only a heartless person could fail to shed an emotional tear upon seeing four hostages finally returning home after 264 days in Hamas captivity. Only a person devoid of any emotion could fail to feel happy for the parents, siblings and friends of Noa, Almog, Andrey and Shlomi who, following 245 sleepless and anguished nights, filled with worries and fears, could finally hug and kiss their loved ones on their return from hell.

Only a totally obtuse person would not heave a sigh of relief upon seeing the heartwarming sight of people whose only sin was being Israeli, saved by the skin of their teeth from the jaws of Hamas captivity in Gaza.

It really moves one to tears, seeing families reunited and knowing that these four innocent people are again in a safe and familiar place. A place which should be the safest, quietest and most pleasant place for all human beings, their home. The place where their family lives.

Precisely in the midst of all this joy, erupting on all sides, it is more important than ever to remember and remind ourselves that increasing numbers of people are finally realizing the simple fact that this war must stop. Immediately, now. The only way of extricating the other hostages is not through a "heroic operation" such as this one (which the IDF spokesman himself said in a rare moment in which he was not spouting lies "could have ended very differently") but by signing a deal with Hamas which would enable the release of Israeli hostages and an immediate halt to the massacre Israel is perpetrating in Gaza.

Israel's prime minister, along with the group of sycophants surrounding him, with their disastrous decisions determining who shall live and who shall die, has already started trying to leverage the operation's success in order to prove that there is nothing wiser and more correct than continuing the war with all our might. That is why it is so important not to be taken in by his manipulations, since only a heartless man does not cry in pain and sorrow over the gut-wrenching sights of the dozens of Palestinian families who lost their loved ones in this operation. Some of them are tiny children whose only sin was to be born to Palestinian families living in Gaza.

Only a person devoid of emotions would not think, today more than any other day, about all the Israeli families of hostages whose loved ones were killed while they were captives in Gaza, whether by Hamas or by the Israel Defense Forces.

Families who instead of grieving for their loved ones could have been with them if only a deal with Hamas had been signed months ago. Only a totally insensitive person is not enraged, feeling anger and helplessness in the face of a merciless and unbridled vengeance campaign carried out by Israel in Gaza (and the West Bank).

We cannot allow the future price paid by all of us, Palestinians and Israelis, for the return of four hostages, to be so horrific. Anyone with a soul and some sense must understand this and do everything possible to disrupt the gang of necrophiles ruling over us, continuing to cause more unnecessary killing and suffering.
